This must be one of those places in Cochin that does not require a review from anyone ,let alone me. Krishna used to tell me about this place years ago , when we were studying. And then the movies Salt and Pepper and Kammath and Kammath came out which claimed to be loosely based on this place in Cochin which makes the best dosas ever. I have had dosas from the most famous places in Chennai including Woodlands and Sharavana Bhavan. And i couldn't imagine there could be dosas better than that. So i never expressed enthusiasm to visit that place. Big mistake. Big big mistake.
Krishna took me to Pia Dosa for the first time one midnight. Yup that's one of the very few places in cochin that is open around midnight. I was awed by the sheer variety in the menu itself. In Bangalore there are street food stalls that makes 50 variety or 100 variety dosas. But pai has an astounding 150+ variety of yummylicious dosas. I ordered a cheese ,quail egg dosa that day. It was amazing. There were like 10 quail eggs and a 3/4 block of hot gooey cheese. I was too busy drooling slurping and licking that day i couldn't take any pics. :P.
We went there again another midnight with my sister and she got bowled over too. I ordered a cheese heavy dosa that day too but don't remember exactly which one. Again got too involved with the food and completely forgot about taking pics. Later on i got a chance. This time we went with my mom and Dadu to the Edapally branch. It was relatively bigger than the MG road one. And we took our own sweet time to order (you have to prepay and it is self service from the live counter , which makes it all the more drool worthy) and watched them make it. Krishna ordered this 5 in one dosa which looked like a 3 course meal.The food is nowhere light. Its not your regular masala dosa that makes a light filling breakfast. Have a 4 in one or 5 in one dosa and you will feel like you just had a buffet.
Even with all this and my determination to click a few pics it was soo hard to keep everyones hands off the food. But i managed some how. They even had the famous Thattil kutti dosa from Salt and Pepper movie and we ordered it for kuttan. He had two of them!. Now without further adieu let me take you through the pics.
